Managing Classroom iPads

2016-12-08 20:19:27 start34admin

Now that many teachers have a set of iPads in their classrooms, we are providing a number of improvements to the way iPads are managed.

Keeping iPads Organized

Icons and folders are now stuck in place and assigned to specific pages on the iPads. This will reduce the number of pages of Apps as well as ensuring that Apps are in the same place all time.

Installing Apps

An extensive App Catalogue has been provided with over 100 of the best iPad apps for Elementary students. The catalogue also includes any Apps purchased by the school. Installing apps from the catalogue does not require a password. Simply tap the app to install it.
HINT: Leave the App catalogue open for several minutes to ensure that the App request goes through.

Deleting Apps

Deleting Apps has also be made easier. Students are still not able to delete apps by tapping an holding them. However, teachers can go in through the Settings App and delete apps from there. Here is the procedure for deleting apps>

Open Settings/General/Storage & iCloud Usage/Manage Storage. Tap on the App to be deleted. Choose Delete.

Searching for and Installing Apps for SD34 iPads

2016-03-04 16:14:04 start34admin

Schools looking for iOS Apps should have a look at the Volume Purchase Program (VPP) website for pricing and other information. This site is essentially the “iTunes App Store” for Schools and Enterprise. Follow this link to access the Canadian VPP Store: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/ca/store

Many, but not all, App Developers offer a Volume Discount for purchases of over 20 licenses. This only applies at the point of purchase, not retroactively. Schools should consider purchasing extra licenses if they are planning to purchase more iPads in the near future.

Airwatch, SD34’s Mobile Device Management service, receives the licenses from the VPP Store where they are available to be assigned to iPads. Installing Apps is done “Over-the-Air” through the Airwatch console. Licenses are assigned to individual devices and are no longer associated with an iTunes account. No iTunes password is necessary to install Apps with Airwatch using Device Assignment.

Some good App Search websites include:

If your school is interested in purchasing apps OR installing free Apps, contact your iPad Keeper or Gary Toews for more information and assistance.
